I didn't follow any tutorials for this cake. I just looked at pictures and made it up as I went along! I was shocked it turned out so cute! Here is a quick explanation of what I did.

1. Cook 1 box of funfetti cake mix in a 13x9" dish. Once cooled, flip it (Turn it upside down carefully, making sure all sides and bottom will come out easily) onto the platter you will use for the cake. (I found the perfect sized clear one at the Dollar Tree!)

2. I used regular green food coloring to dye a jar of store bought vanilla frosting. (Warning: to get vibrant colors, it takes pretty much the entire food coloring dropper) Use a grass icing tip like this one to make the top look like grass.

3. Using 6" Round cake pans, cook 1 box of chocolate cake. I think I cooked 4- 6" round cakes.

4. Once cooled, layer the cake rounds on top of each other, using frosting between the layers to help them stay together. Use a knife to shape your 4 layer round cake into a volcano. Also, use a spoon to dig a bit out of the top.

5. Remove the lid and foil from a jar of chocolate store bought frosting and heat in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Use this frosting to frost the volcano. You can pour it on and smooth with a knife or use a knife to apply the frosting. Luckily, since the frosting and cake are both brown, this doesn't need to be perfect to still look great! For more insight on this step, you can watch my youtube video here on easy frosting tips

6. Carefully move the volcano onto the rectangular green cake. I suggest placing it in the middle. I ended up having to slide a plate under my platter to prop it up so the volcano wouldn't collapse.

7. Lastly, use red and orange food coloring to dye store bought vanilla frosting. Microwave the frosting until it is drippy (pretty much liquid) and smooth. Pour over the volcano slowly until you have your desired look.
