Favorite Fall DIY

Happy fall, to you all!! I fell absolutely, head-over-heels in love with this years fall floral from Michael's. They rebelled against the traditional warm colors of fall and instead brought in shades of green, blush pink and maroon using light green, ivory and gold as accents. Truthfully, this is the first time I have ever been compelled to explore floral arranging. So, you experts out there, don't judge too harshly.

The key to getting the best tablescape is gathering. I am a very skilled gatherer! However, it takes time and patience! For this project (as with most of my projects), I gathered from Michael's, Target, JoAnn's, Dollar Tree and .99 store. I did, however, make the runner. It was so simple and cost only about $4! Win, win!! Follow these steps to make your own!

Supplies:

-1/2 yard burlap (for a 46" long runner)-- $1 (using 50% coupon)

-1/4 or 1/2 yard of 2 or more coordinating fabrics

-1 yard Pellon Wonder Under-- $2 (using 50% off coupon)

-Leaves to trace (See template at the bottom of the page)

-Pencil

-Scissors

-Iron

Before beginning, you may want to check out this video I made on how to use Wonder Under!

Step 1: Cut your burlap to desired length and width. The easiest way to cut burlap is to choose where you want it cut and pull that string out. This will leave a gap in the threads which will act as a cutting guide.

Step 2: Trace about 30 leaves (See template at the bottom of this page) onto the paper side of the Wonder Under, using a pencil.

Step 3: Iron the wonder under, bumpy side down, onto the back of your fabric. Hold iron down for about 20 second to ensure that it adheres properly.

Step 4: Grab a diet coke, turn on a good show and cut out your leaves!

Step 5: Peel the paper backs off of the leaves. Lay your burlap on your ironing board. (You may want to put a layer of fabric under your burlap to protect your ironing board from any Wonder Under residue.) Place your leaves in all directions. Once the leaves are in desired position, press with the iron for about 20 seconds.

For the perfect size leaves, print the image provided to fit on a full 8.5"x 11" piece of paper.

I have two more fun and fast fall DIY's for you! The first are these adorable pumpkin place cards.

Run to the Dollar Tree, .99 store, Walmart or Michael's. Buy the number of pumpkins you need, toothpicks, mini clothes pins, paint and 1 piece of scrapbook paper to be the backing of the place card. Paint the pumpkins. This will take about 2 layers. Hot glue the mini clothes pin to the toothpick. Poke the toothpick in place! You can use this link to make and print your own place cards!

My last fall DIY for this year is a simple way to upgrade basic pine cones. All you do is paint the outside edges gold.

See ya next year Fall!
